- Gas & Venting for the Takagi TM1 Gas Water Heater
It is very important to have the proper size gas line. See the TM-1 manual for
more information on pipe size or contact your local gas company or contractor.

- Combustion Air Required (Indoor Installations) Takagi TM1
In order to ensure an adequate supply of combustion air, the
National Fuel Gas Code requires that any conventional vented gas appliance be
installed in a room with a minimum volume of 50 cubic feet per 1,000 Btu/hr
rated input. The following is the minimum size of open space in which the
TM1 may be installed in compliance with this requirement:
|
Model
|
Volume
|
Area with an 8' ceiling
|
|
TM1
|
11,750 cubic feet
|
1,475 square feet
|
If the T-M1 is installed in an area smaller than indicated
above, then the installer must make special provisions for combustion air in the
form of two openings, each one within 12" of the top and 12" of the
bottom of the space, having a total free area of 1 square inch per 1,000 Btu/hr
of rated input if the air is taken from inside the house (two 16" x
16" openings). This requirement reduces to 1 square inch per 4,000 Btu/hr
if the air is taken from the outside (two 6.5" x 6.5" openings).
Note: This calculation assumes normal rates of
"infiltration" of outside air. A super-insulated, super-tight
space/building may require outside air for the T-M1 even though the volume/area
of the space meets this application.
Caution: In addition to the above, the T-M1 must be
properly vented to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Output Temperature Ratings of the Takagi TM1
The T-M1 is factory preset at 122°. You can change the output temperature
with the internal dipswitches to 113°, 122°, 140° or 182°.
If you want to use any other temperatures than this you can purchase the optional
Remote Control Temperature that will allow the T-M1 to have output temperatures
from 95° to 180°.
Please Note: Hot Water Heater Temperatures over 125°F can cause severe
burns instantly or death from scalding. Children, disabled and elderly are at the highest
risk of being scaled. Feel water temperature before bathing or showering.
